Tucson Drug Crimes Attorney

Arizona Drug Charges Attorney

If you have a been accused of a drug crime, a key issue in your defense will be how the police came in contact with you and obtained the drug evidence. As your attorney, I will make a close examination of the circumstances of your arrest to determine if the police:

  • Had a reasonable suspicion for stopping you
  • Had probable cause for searching your person or vehicle
  • Violated your right to counsel or your right to remain silent

Many police officers are arrogant and violate the rights of the people they arrest. If police violated your rights, the drug evidence may be suppressed or the case may even be dismissed.

I am attorney Carlos A. Medina. I defend people charged with drug crimes throughout southern Arizona. I offer a free initial consultation to discuss your case.

Consequences of a Drug Conviction

In Arizona, most drug charges except for possession of a small amount of marijuana are felonies. Felony offenses are the most serious types of charges and carry the most severe consequences, including the potential for a lengthy prison sentence, loss of gun rights and a lifetime record as a convicted felon. Few employers would want to hire someone who has a felony conviction.

In Arizona, the potential for a prison sentence will depend on the quantity of drugs in your possession. If you possess more than the threshold amount of marijuana, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine (meth) or other drugs, you will be assumed to be a dealer and will not be eligible for probation, even if you are a first-time offender. If you possess less than the threshold amount, you will be assumed to be a user and may be eligible for probation.

My goal in any drug possession or sales case is to minimize the effect of the arrest on your freedom and your future.
